I am not here to complain about how hot the weather has been lately.
I am here because the last thing I remember was taking a deep breath and saying a little prayer for good luck before I started teaching (a.k.a. my job). I will not bore you with cliche sentences that begin with oh how time flies when or it seemed only yesterday when because who has not had experiences like that?
Anyway.
Love = math = sharing = 2sinxcosx (but that's really sin2x but you get the point...hopefully).
It goes without the whole drama and fireworks that the past months have been great. Of course, not without a few bumps in the road (LET exam, adjusting to CL and worksheets, remedial classes, failing, procrastination, writing letters of recommendations whose requirement is to be *brilliant* et ceteraaaa) but really, what's a little tumble if you can touch the stars for a moment?
This whole rambling thing may not be working. Bear with me. This is due to deliberations and too much time on my hands. :p
But really. Do I always have to gush over every small cute/touching thing my students do? See here: I get mad because they aren't following procedure but the next minute, when I'm back in the faculty room, I'm gushing because of some random joke or experience they shared with me. Seriously, sometimes, I think I'm delusional.
But I wouldn't trade those moments for anything. At all.
(Actually, I wouldn't trade the past year for a billion dollars. Although we can talk about higher amounts later. Haha. Kidding, seriously.)
Anyway, while I still have time left to savor this year, here's to finishing the remaining weeks in a blaze of glory whose warmth, hopefully, shall be felt for a long, long time. I close with a quotation (not very original, but it's a meaningful, haha):
I am a mathematical optimist. I only deal with positive integers. (Tendai Chitewere)
PS. There will be a better (and sane) entry. Hopefully. :D

How things turn out. And how time flies. Weird lang, pero okay naman.
I think. It can even be viewed humorous. (Or that might only be me. Haha.)
Pero here's the evidence: With Him, it's only a yes, no or not now. Ang winner lang talaga kung yung not now ay naging now na. Sense of humor Mo talagaaaaa!
I know this doesn't make much sense, but this entry is mostly for me to be reminded of my decisions and choices. So it's okay if this is rather incoherent. Stream of consciousness drama. Haha.

I promised Seedling Jaimee that I'd burn her a cd full of fanworthy songs I've discovered recently. Since I wasn't able to fulfill that promise (yet), here's the lyrics of one of the songs. Actually, I don't need to use Jaimee as an excuse. It's just a beautiful song.
Kahit na medyo self-centered siya. Hahaaaa!
How Do You Love (Collective Soul)
There once was love thrown into your room But you never knew A calendar of days just for you But you never knew, never knew no And the truth that you'll find will always be The truth you hide
So how do you love, how do you love When your angels can't sing, and your world is still Lacking of me
There once were eyes that only saw you But you never knew A portrait of a flower in full bloom But you never knew, never knew no And the words that you fear will always be The words you hear
This space where you've been living Has gifts you've never given That's the face you always show Ask me for words of wisdom Tell me of your condition I don't know, I don't, I don't know
And the truth that you'll find will always be The truth you hide
------------
Signing off for the nexxt few weeks. Probably. :p

A few things:
Bawal mawalan ng pasok bukas, huhu. May quiz ako na ibibigay sa students ko. :(
---------
Two weeks into teaching and generally, all is good. While I complain about the workload and my class schedule, at the end of each day, I know I still leave work happy and excited about the next day. Hahaaa. Baka hindi na ko ganito bukas.
---------
While waiting for my mom to pick me up yesterday at Delifrance (Saturday reporting at work yesterday, oh well), I decided to make an answer key to the exercise set I'm planning to give to my students sometime this week. All was going okay and as I was finishing up the key, a British guy and his Filipino friend took the table next to mine. The Brit noticed I was answering the worksheet and here went our conversation:
Brit: I couldn't help but notice, but are you doing your homework? Me: Oh no, I'm answering the worksheet for my students. Brit: So you're answering it for someone? Me: No, for my students. I'm their teacher. Brit: Wow, so you're making an answer key before you check their papers? Me: No, they'll be answering this sometime this week as an exercise. Brit: That's great! I taught Math for 34 years in Canada and Saudi Arabia, that's why I couldn't help but notice what you were doing. Me: (hahaaaa, ngiti na lang akoooo.) Brit: So how many years have you been teaching? Me: This is my first year to teach. Brit: Oh good luck! I hope you stay long in the business. Me: Thanks, I hope I could teach as long as you did. Filipino Friend: Good luck! He just loves math, that's why he's like that.
At that point my mom called to inform me that she was by the Podium's driveway already so I had to excuse myself from the conversation. I told the tale to my mom and she laughed & told me I shouldn't be doing geeky Math stuff at random public places. @_@

...but can I just rant about the fact that my students have finally discovered my inactive Friendster profile? Of course I approved their requests; I don't want to have to hear their voices when they nag me about my non-action regarding their requests.
Approving them, of course, meant I had to update my profile to erase my LJ link. After all, I have to appear respectful in front of my students. LOL. I can't have them knowing I drink alcoholic stuff and fangirl over silly things like Hiroyuki Sanada and Winplot and my pretty graphing calculator! :P

It did not pass me by as expected. I did not prepare a lesson plan nor did I even consider what effective teaching materials I could utilize. I got to UPIS around twenty minutes before my scheduled class observation. I didn't even know I was going to teach until fifteen minutes before my class when my Supervising Teacher, Ma'am Lily, called me into her office and said, Katrina, I have a meeting today; please take over my classes.
WTFFFFFFF.
Ma'am Lily gave me the lesson for the day: Linear Equations in One Variable. She whipped out a few examples I could use, stressed important points I needed to explain to the kids, gave me a sheet of exercises should I finish the discussion early, and sent me off to the wolves --- fine, my students.
I've been dreading real real teaching, because as an Educ student you hear a lot of horror stories and UPIS kids could sometimes be too much, but I was mostly scared of screwing up and nobody getting my explanations. Legitimate concerns, right? But strangely, on my way to Room 131, I was overly worried about the white board; UPIS ' classrooms are equipped with such boards, and it's harder to write on their smoother-than-a-blackboard surfaces.
I don't remember much of the two classes I taught. I know I did all that was asked of me, made a few jokes with the students, called them to the board to solve and explaining concepts that suddenly seemed all too important for fourteen year old kids. But I distinctly remember the different kind of high I felt during my two classes.
In front of those two classes, I knew I was scared and worried but I also knew this, teaching, I could do. Hello, ang cool kaya ng Math no. I mean, the high will probably fade once requirements get the better of me, but in my heart, I know that this choice of a career is not the wrong one for me. So yes, hopeful I currently am.
By the way, on Thursday, we do equation drills. :)

My seedling, Jaimee, remarked the best thing ever this afternoon. It kinda went like this over at the Educ front lawn:
Jaq: O, Kaka, san ka galing? Kaka: Sa UPIS. Orientation ng Student Teachers on UPIS history and rules. Jaq: Sige nga, sample ng pagiging teacher. Kaka: (since Jaq was smoking) You, Jaqueline, get rid of that cigarette stick! (hahahaa) Jaq: Ahaha!
Thanks seedling. That just might get me through five months of practicum. :)

I finally formally moved into my new dorm for the next five months (or so). Yey.
Books - check Clothes - check Shoes - check Perry and Charlie - check Desk lamp - check Calculators and math stuff - check Toiletries - check Food - check Pretty organizer - check Net connection - YES!
---------
Here's my (semi)final schedule this semester:

Practicum :: Am going to teach two Junior Advanced Algebra classes. I said I wouldn't teach at IS, because I am scared shitless of sooper OC lesson plans they require there, but recent changes to the Student Teaching Committee forced me to do so otherwise. Ohgod I hope I don't kill anyone this semester. Huhu. So, greatest integer function anyone?
Stat 131 :: I'm done with all my Stat subjects for my minor, but I figured taking this subject up would be interesting. Ahahaaa. But seriously, I think it'll be rather fun. :P
---------
I-Was-Able-To-Catch-These-Movies checklist: Mostly because I won't be able to watch any more films for the next five months. Sigh.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End Meet the Robinsons Fracture Zodiac Ocean's 13 Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
---------
I need something good to read.

I HATE YOU CRS!!!! Utang na loob, last semester ko na bilang undergrad, palpak ka pa ring online enlistment ka?!
To give you something horrible: Instead of enlisting me in my practicum course and its corequisite seminar course (the only subjects I need to graduate), the oh-so-great CRS enlisted me in Lingg 366 and PA 209, which are doctoral & masteral subjects respectively.
WTFFFFFFFFF talaga.

My entire family actually went home early so that we could all catch the ending of Maging Sino Ka Man. And what do you know, we got exactly what we expected: 10 minutes of actual storyline material, an hour of commercials and a FECKIN' ADVERTISEMENT FOR BOOK 2!
Come on. You have to be kidding me. How will I be able to watch Book 2 with my practicum in June?! LOL.
But really, those entertainment people don't know when to quit. Especially when they're ahead. They should've just tied all the loose ends of the story. Now, with "the sequel" coming, they'll just be banking on the show's popularity to get people to watch it.
Okay. Stopping corny stuff now. :P

Today, I went room-hunting with Kitty and Mia(man). It's only two weeks til June, so rooms are kinda hard to come by in the Katipunan area. However, thanks to Mia(man)'s extensive knowledge of E. Abada dorms and her pretty pretty car, we found the (nearly) perfect place off the corner of Mcdo and Shakey's Katips.
So yey. :P
Before deciding upon that place, however, we took a look at MyPlace. Hahaha. That place is horribly expensive, but the facilities are actually really really pretty. Ma was pretty interested about it when I mentioned the "features" of the place, since she's all hung up about security and curfew, but really, staying there would equate to throwing money away. Plus, it has a one year contract, and I plan to graduate by October. Haha.

( And now, pics for your viewing pleasure. :P )

And since summer class is finally ending (yey, vacation!) in a week's time, here's my current reading list:
- Junior ~ Macaulay Culkin
- Wicked ~ Gregory Maguire
- Alas Babylon ~ Pat Frank
- Starter for 10 ~ David Nicholls
- Til We Have Faces ~ CS Lewis
- Orphans of Chaos ~ John C. Wright
- (and most important of them all) my HP 39gs' user guide :P

Do you guys remember my dear ol' Fred?
I'm sure you guys do. I lugged him around (in a big gray backpack) for two years, doted on him as if he had his own personality, hooked up my first iPod on him, made my first module ever with him (along with countless of papers and presentations), and have had people call/text me in the middle of the night so that they could borrow them for presentations and such.
I remember spending countless nights in front of him, experiencing shocking moments like having him rain-drenched plus not starting up the morning after, and bringing him in for RAM upgrades and such. When I was also in the dorm, I remember people coming in my room for late night marathons using Fred and Melo typing her lesson plans using Fred in between episodes of Bleach. :P
During summer last year, my dad gave me Bill (which I don't have an entry of, because I was kinda dead from the LJ world then), and my Fred went off to hide beneath my bed most of the time, only to be taken out when my mom feels the need to use a notebook instead of our desktop.
Today, officially, Fred is in the market for a new owner. While I really don't feel the need to sell him (haha, nostalgic!), I mean, he'll just rot underneath my bed because of the lack of use. I've had loads of fun memories with Fred, and he has served his purpose well over the past years, and maybe another person (if ever I manage to sell him, LOL) will have a great experience with him as well. :)
